Here’s Why You Should Leave Early for the Shore this Memorial Day Weekend
Memorial Day Weekend is almost here, and there’s a few reasons you should plan to head down the shore early this year: less traffic, and more fun!
Traffic on Memorial Day Weekend 2024
6ABC reports that the AAA is predicting a congested holiday weekend ahead. They say that nearly 44 million people will be in transit this year to kick off vacation season. This number is “approaching a nearly 20-year high.”
It’s expected that 38 million of those people will be traveling by car. We can expect that here in the Philadelphia area, lots of beachgoers will be heading to New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland shores to start their summer, potentially making traffic a mess. Leave as early on Friday (5/24) as possible, or maybe head to your destination on Thursday to avoid the hassle. Plus, you’ll have extra time to decompress.
WMMR Down the Shore
Here’s the biggest reason to leave for the shore early: Preston and Steve are back at Keenan’s in North Wildwood with their annual live broadcast to open the Jersey shore.
Keenan’s North Wildwood is located 113 Olde New Jersey Ave, North Wildwood, NJ. It kicks off bright and early with doors opening at 6:30am on the morning of Friday May 24th, and the bar opens up at 7am. (Pace yourself, you’ve got the whole Memorial Day Weekend ahead!) If you want to get in on the action, you’ll want to hit the road early to join this massive party. Keep in mind that you do need to be 21+ to attend.
This year Preston and Steve are bringing back the Seagull Screech-Off Contest! There’s still time to put your name in the hat if you think you can screech with the best of ’em. More info here.
That’s all happening in the morning, and there’s more partying to be had!
Brent Porche will be broadcasting live from ‘The Star Beach Bar’ at The Icona Diamond Beach from 3-7pm. Find him with the MMaRmy at 402 E. Rochester Avenue, Wildwood, NJ. Brent will be giving away concert tickets every half-hour, including seat for The Rolling Stones show in June and MMRBQ in September!
On Air in Philadelphia and Beyond
Back at the radio ranch, Pierre Robert will preview our special vinyl weekend on WMMR on his show from 10am to 3pm. You can listen on your radio, or if you’re out of range for the weekend, you can always stream live at WMMR.com, via the FREE MMR App, or ask your smart speaker to “Open MMR”.
