Summer is almost here, as Summer Solstice officially happens on June 20, and boy, does it feel like it. This week is going to bring record-breaking temperatures to many areas of Pennsylvania and across America. But, we’re going to be extra hot, because several Pennsylvania cities are projected to eclipse record temperatures this week, according to weather experts.
These Pennsylvania Cities Could Be the Hottest in America
Even if you aren’t in one of these Pennsylvania cities that could eclipse record temperatures this week and be among the hottest in America, you should be careful, because either way, it’s going to be very hot. It’s not something to mess around with, either. According to the experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), hot weather can be deadly. “High temperatures kill hundreds of people every year,” they state. “Heat-related deaths and illness are preventable, yet more than 700 people die from extreme heat every year in the United States.” They add that one thing you can do to help protect yourself is to drink a lot of water. When it’s hot outside and the humidity is high, humans’ sweat won’t evaporate as quickly, they point out. So, your body isn’t able to release heat fast enough. Drinking a lot of water helps. I’m actually drinking a bottle of water right now. The CDC also recommends to stay inside in an air-conditioned area, don’t rely on a fan to cool down during an extreme heat event, check with neighbors and relatives to make sure they’re doing well and limit your use of the stove and oven. Also, avoid outdoor activities, especially working out in super hot weather or playing sports. Take cool showers and baths, too. Finally, don’t ever leave pets, children or elderly people in cars in this weather. Nobody should be sitting in a hot car in 90-plus degree temperatures.
So, which Pennsylvania cities could eclipse record temperatures this week and be among the hottest in America? According to CNN, on Monday (June 17), Erie, Pennsylvania could overtake their previous record of 94 degrees set in 2018. On Tuesday (June 18), Allentown, Avoca and Mount Pocono could also surpass their hottest record and be among the hottest in America. On Wednesday (June 19), Avoca, Mount Pocono, Philadelphia Center City and Reading could all hit and surpass record highs. So, if you’re in any of those areas, be very careful and follow the severe weather tips above. I absolutely love summer and usually say that it can never get too hot, but this is too hot for me.
