Guitarist, Andy McKee Performs “Hunter’s Moon” and “For My Father” on The Preston & Steve Show
It’s been about a decade since Andy McKee performed on the Preston & Steve Show, but he has returned, spreading the word about his Sellersville Theater show!
Known for his iconic song Drifting, which now boasts 61 million views, McKee has long been captivated by acoustic guitar. His playing involves intricate fingerstyle techniques that he has mastered throughout years of practice. The sub-harmonies are created by muting strings with his fingers and using his thumb nail to strum. Rhythmic elements are added as well. The whole body of the guitar is used to evoke knock-like drum beats to get a dynamic composition out of one instrument! As an example, he played his heavily percussive song Hunter’s Moon live!
When asked about his creative process, McKee believes that being open to new mindsets helps him create his best music. After casually tuning his guitar by ear (while wearing headphones) he ended the interview by playing a most heartfelt song titled, For My Father.
McKee experiments with different tunings and techniques, like using a harp guitar, which he will play at tonight’s show!
