Fall is the perfect time to visit a cider mill and corn maze, and a handful of Pennsylvania and New Jersey corn mazes are getting recognized as some of the best in the country. I absolutely love visiting cider mills in the fall. Actually, I like doing it in the spring and summer, too, because it’s less busy and makes for some scenic views. But, this fall season, I’ve already been to two area cider mills, because I had to get a jump on the seasonal fun. If you’re planning to visit a cider mill or two coming up, make note that these local cider mills are fantastic. Of course, if doesn’t stop there, so venture out and try any of your local cider mills for some adventure this season.

The experts at USA Today have a new 10 Best tally out with the best corn mazes in America. These are spots that were selected by an expert panel and voted by their readers as the best in the country. “Each autumn, farms across the United States transform their cornfields into interactive mazes, perfect for a fall family outing,” they state, adding that these spots “are the most exemplary, both for the quality of the mazes themselves and for the wealth of other activities” offered. Whether you’re looking for a scary corn maze or one that offers family fun, they have you covered. I love regular corn mazes and haunted ones can be a blast, but I always have the fear of getting stuck in one, which is silly.
The No. 1 corn maze in America, according to their readers and panel, is Treworgy Family Orchards in Levant, Maine. It’s the longest continually running corn maze in the state,” covering more than four acres and consists of 60,000 corn plants grown to a height of 10 feet.
So, what about our area? Irons Mill Farmstead at 252 Greenfield Road in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, is No. 10 on the tally, with USA Today stating that “the Milliron family creates a new corn maze each year, with a design that pays tribute to something close to their hearts, from favorite football teams to portraits of people they love.” Also, No. 2 is Cherry Crest Adventure Farm at 150 Cherry Hill Road in Ronks, Pennsylvania, where “guests spend an hour or more navigating the maze with the help of maze guides, clues, and a game board.” They don’t have a New Jersey spot, but a favorite is the corn maze at Alstede Farms in Chester.
