Wrestling Fans: Kick Off Mania Weekend with the Blue Meanie

WrestleMania is coming to Philadelphia on April 6th and 7th, and fans can kick off their Mania weekend with a local legend in the world of pro wrestling.

On Thursday, April 4th, you can join the Blue Meanie at McCusker’s Tavern in South Philadelphia on the corner of 17th and Shunk Streets (2601 S. 17th St). Meanie Mania: The Pay Per Brew Kickoff Event goest from 7pm to 2am, with no cover to come hang (though you do have to be 21+ to attend). There’ll be quizzo, promo from Oskar Blues Brewery, and of course, good company.

Blue Meanie ECW/WWE alumni who’s long been part of the Philadelphia wrestling scene. He announced on his Instagram that he’ll be “at his favorite bar on the planet, McCusker’s!! McCusker’s is the PERFECT spot to kick off your Mania week and go to for a pre and post wrestling event hang!”

Here’s what wrestling fans need to know:

*McCusker’s Tavern is CASH ONLY but they have an ATM on site
*The bar is 7 minutes from Lincoln Financial Field (where WrestleMania is happening) and the Wells Fargo Center (where the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony will take place that weekend)
*It’s a 10 minute drive from the 2300 Arena
*It’s 15 minutes to get there from Center City

Ride share services (Lyft, Uber, taxis) are readily available to get you to and from the event safely.

2300 Arena Tours for Wrestling Fans in town for Mania Week:

Blue Meanie’s got a busy week. Before Meanie Mania on Thursday, he’ll be at the 2300 Arena on Wednesday, April 3rd, located at (as the name implies)  2300 S. Swanson St. He’ll host tours of the historic ECW arena (two time slots: 4pm and 7pm). Each tour will wrap with a beverage on Meanie during a Q&A session. Ticket are available at this location.

• WrestleMania almost wasn’t WrestleMania

  Legendary WWE Hall of Fame ring announcer Howard Finkel is credited with coining the name “WrestleMania,” but before landing on that perfect name, Vince McMahon wanted to call his annual showcase “The Colossal Tussle.”

  Up until this year, which sees WrestleMania 36 split into a two-night event taking place on Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5, WrestleMania 2 was the only WrestleMania to not take place on a Sunday. Instead, it took place on Monday, April 7, 1986.

• WrestleMania 28 holds the record for most PPV buys.

  The WrestleMania that billed the "once in a lifetime" match between The Rock and John Cena saw 1,217,000 PPV buys, which is the most PPV buys for a single WrestleMania ever. Of course, that “once in a lifetime” tag wasn’t exactly true, and The Rock vs. John Cena would headline WrestleMania 29.

• “Macho Man” Randy Savage has the record for most WrestleMania matches in a single night.

  OH, YEAH! WrestleMania 4 featured a 14-man tournament for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship. Savage would end up winning the title defeating Butch Reed, Greg Valentine, One Man Gang, and “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase.
• Longest match in WrestleMania history.

  The legendary iron man match between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XII still holds the record for longest WrestleMania match clocking in at one hour, one minute and 52 seconds.

• Shortest match in WrestleMania history.

  The shortest WrestleMania match happened in recent history at WrestleMania 32 when The Rock squashed Erick Rowan in just six seconds.

  Triple H may be one of the most prolific wrestlers in WWE history, but he also has the notorious honor of having the most losses at WrestleMania with 13. Yikes!
