It’s Showtime! ‘Beetlejuice’ Star Justin Collette Stops By The Preston & Steve Show
"Beetlejuice" is in town! Actor/singer, Justin Collette, who stars as the spectral "bio-exorcist" Betelgeuse, stops by the studio to talk about his time at Second City, how musicals are developed, and working with kids on stage in "School of Rock: The Musical" on Broadway. You might be familiar with Justin Collette for his role as Dewey Finn in School of Rock – The Musical on Broadway, or as the writer of the animated series Doomlands. Niche podcast lovers out there may have even heard him as a guest on the My Neighbors Are Dead or The Common Cult podcasts, but today The Preston and Steve Show hosted Collette to discuss his role as Beetlejuice in the national tour of the musical. Casey saw Justin perform as the unhinged character last weekend at the Academy of Music on South Broad St and was so impressed by his passionate reinterpretation of Michael Keaton’s Beetlejuice from the film. Justin agrees that he took a lot of inspiration from Keaton and Alex Brightman’s interpretation from the original Broadway cast. Drawing from both their styles and of course the energy they put into the role, he made the most out of the script he was given, and we can clearly see Justin has a great appreciation for music. https://vimeo.com/832666824?share=copy “Lydia’s songs are like punk rock musical theater,” Justin says about genre variety pf Beetlejuice, “All [Beetlejuice’s] numbers are stream of consciousness, chaos, the Maitlands I’d say would have more classical theater numbers that are like straight Rogers and Hammerstein stuff.” Catch Justin in the final leg of performances at the Academy of Music. Now through Thursday June 11th . Tickets.
