The Rolling Stones: Pierre’s Backstage Adventure
For a Rolling Stones fanatic like Pierre Robert, traveling to see the band is the equivalent of a rock n’ roll pilgrimage. And going backstage? That’s like reaching nirvana.
In the summer of 2019, they were playing the last show of the ‘No Filter’ tour in Miami, Florida. Our intrepid DJ flew Air Pierre down south to witness the final night of this run. As luck would have it, Pierre’s friend John Langenstein was on the group’s security detail that night, and he was able to give him an amazing backstage tour a few hours before the concert began.
As Pierre stepped onto the stage, and walked down that same runway that Mick Jagger would dance on later that night, he was overcome with emotion. The Rolling Stones are referred to as “the world’s greatest rock n’ roll band” with good reason: so much music would not exist without their influence. At the same time, they honor the musical roots that allowed them to flourish for over six decades. The band that still performs live to this day, connecting the past and the present, and inspiring future generations of musicians and fans. As it turned out, this would be drummer Charlie Watts‘ last performance, making that night even more special in retrospect.
Today (7/26) is Mick’s birthday, and it’s a milestone – he’s 80, and as vibrant and energetic as ever! In honor of that, let’s take you back to this incredible night. The photos and videos below capture a mind-blowing experience that Pierre describes as one of the greatest nights of his life.
