How Hard Is It To Throw a Tennis Ball Over a Six Story Building? Harder Then You Think
Ever look at a building and think, “I could toss a ball all the way to the top?” Some of you have.
That some include Casey Boy from The Preston & Steve Show. After working at the same building in Bala Cynwyd for 18 years, he was convinced that he could throw a tennis ball onto the roof.
We’re not sure is this idea has been festering for a while or if it’s a new thought. But on Monday morning he blurted it out, then immediately went on a scavenger hunt around the halls of the radio station looking for a tennis ball. Alas, there was no ball to be found. Tuesday morning, he showed up with a bag full, ready to go.
Before the sun was fully up, Casey Boy was out on the side of the building, ready to toss. Unfortunately, it was not as easy as he expected. “When I first made the claim that I could throw a tennis ball onto the roof of our building, I was confident…because I didn’t really know how high 6 stories really was.”

Like a message in a bottle, The Preston & Steve Show Executive Producer signed his name on the ball for the person who might find it days, weeks, or decades later. But that move may have been a little presumptuous. “Upon walking outside and glancing up, I realized that I had underestimated the height I was attempting to reach.”
There was no giving up on this mission.
Casey’s goal was set the World Record for Throwing a Tennis Ball on to the Roof of 93.3 WMMR, and he committed to giving his all. “Even though I knew that my goal was, most likely, unattainable, I attempted to give it my all. After my first attempt, I still thought I might be able to make it.”
Attempt number one was promising. The ball tapped the building mid-way up the he sixth floor. He only needed another 5 or so feet to accomplish this fete.
But the tosses from there kept landing slightly lower and lower. “After a few tries from different angles, I was 100% certain that I would not be able to accomplish my dream,” Casey admitted. “Well, not with a tennis ball, at least.”
That’s it. It was the density of the ball. And maybe the weather. And the angle. All of these factors are in play.
And he’s still not giving up. “Stay tuned for a part 2, when I attempt to reach the roof with a heavier ball!”
