Pierre’s Concert Coverage: An Epic Night with The Struts
The Struts gave us one night only to dance our cares away in a packed house at the Fillmore on Saturday.
From the jump, the band effortlessly worked the crowd into a frenzy, dishing out hit after hit of glam rock with a modern twist. They set the tone with “Dirty Sexy Money” and kept everyone moving with MMR favorites “Body Talks,” “Fallin’ With Me” and their newest track “Too Good at Raising Hell.” Philly showed up with dancing shoes on and audience participation was at one hundred percent for the raucous singalongs “One Night Only” and “Where Did She Go.” The energy in the room never stalled out, even as the Struts kept grooving through 20 songs total, pausing only to give singer Luke Spiller a solo moment at his piano during the encore.
There comes a point in each show on this tour that drummer Gethin Davies launches his sticks into the air and holds his open hands up high, and his drum tech Evan replaces them from behind the kit. It’s evolved into a nightly prank: Evan has placed bananas and hot dogs where sticks should be. Philly got a special surprise when Geth held up his hands, only to receive a pair of – ahem – units shaped like sausages. See the NSFW mischief here.
This was the penultimate show of the Remember the Name tour, and Pierre Robert joined the Struts backstage afterwards to celebrate with a toast – or, in this case, a giant ice luge. Luke provided the tequila, and Pierre provided the commentary… Click below to watch the revelry.
The Struts are working on their next album, which is expected to arrive before the end of this year. Watch the indulgent video for their latest single here.
