Since opening in 2016, Bar Pazzo and its rustic Italian food have become a mainstay in downtown Scranton, PA. Restaurant-goers know it for its wood-fired pizzas and casual atmosphere. But lovers of a certain Canadian rock band know it for another reason: its impressive collection of Rush decorations and memorabilia makes it a true hidden gem for fans of the band.

Co-owner and executive chef John “Instinctive Cook” Tabone is a fan himself, although you wouldn’t know it at first glance. Bar Pazzo’s website makes no mention of its Rush-inspired décor, but visit and you’ll find that all manner of Rush artifacts hide in plain sight throughout the restaurant. Look carefully and you can spot curiosities like a Neil Peart-themed kick drum, Geddy Lee’s Book of Bass, and even a photograph of Tabone standing with Alex Lifeson. Images of the collection below.

Pretty cool, right? But Tabone’s Rush fandom isn’t confined to the walls of his restaurant. In fact, last Fall he partnered with another Wyoming Valley establishment, Sabatini’s Bottleshop and Bar, to host “An Evening of Rush”. The event was a no-holds-barred celebration of Rush with Rush trivia, an air drum contest, Rush prizes, and a Rush pinball machine. On the menu were Rush-inspired courses paired with Rush’s signature beers, created as part of a collaboration with Henderson Brewing. The event was reservation-only, “limited to 75 Rush fans”.  The dress code? Your “Favorite Rush concert Tee.”

It seems that Rush enthusiasm is alive and well in Scranton thanks to the Instinctive Cook. If you’re a fellow lover of the band, consider making the pilgrimage to the Connell Building in downtown Scranton. You might just find a kindred spirit in Tabone and enjoy some delicious Italian food while you’re at it.
