Eagles Impose Their Will On Rams, Like They Do Every Week
The Eagles are bullies. They come out every week and wear teams down. It doesn’t matter who it is, the Eagles will impose their will on you on both sides of the ball. They did it again vs the Rams. A game that was close going into half time, was a rout by the time the clock said 0:00.
We spent the first 5 weeks asking what the identity of this team is. Now we know the answer. Their identity is physical old school Football. They will run it at you over and over. Even when some teams stopped that early, eventually the dam will break. And that dam broke tonight, it broke over and over again.
By the end, Saquon Barkley had over 300 yards from scrimmage, including 2 70+ yard TD runs. On the other side, the D-Line racked up 5 sacks, most of which came on 3rd down. They had a 23-point lead until a garbage-time TD made it a 17-point game. Either way, it was a blowout.
It is not like the Rams are pushovers. They were 4-1 in their last 5 games. The 1-4 start was mostly because of injuries, but they were healthy in this game. Many people predicted this Rams team would be the Eagles “toughest test yet.” But like every other test they have faced since the bye week, they passed it with flying colors.
The Rams’ offense gave them some fits early. They didn’t even force the Rams into a 3rd down until the 2nd quarter. But much like he did vs the Bengals, Vic Fangio adjusted. He had to adjust again later when Darius Slay went out with a concussion, and the Rams were picking on Isaiah Rodgers. But they still held the Rams to just 20 points, with 6 of those coming on a meaningless TD at the end of the game.
This is now a pattern. The slow starts might be infuriating, but would you rather start slow, or end slow? When they do this week after week, and just physically wear teams down, it becomes a trend you can bank on. The Rams are not the Cowboys, Giants, or Jaguars. This was a good team, and they had their way with them anyway.
This team has no weaknesses you can easily point out. Right now, they are doing everything well. Jake Elliott even had a bounce-back game. Jalen is playing clean efficient football, both sides of the Line are dominating, Saquon looks like the MVP, and the young defense looks like they might be the best unit in the league.
Eagles Very Comfortable In The 2-Seed
They are 8-2. They have a 2.5-game lead in the East and a 3-game lead for the 2-seed. The Lions keep winning too, so they have made up no ground for the 1-seed. But the Eagles have now won 7 straight games, and have yet to lose when AJ Brown suits up. There is no doubt anymore, the Eagles are right up there with the Lions.
There are some injury concerns. Darius Slay left with a concussion, and Brandon Graham left with an arm injury. Meanwhile, Devonta Smith is nursing a hamstring that kept him out of this game. Those injuries could hurt them next week. But the good thing is they have given themselves a lot of cushion. Even if they do lose to the Ravens, they have a very comfortable lead for the 2-seed. But as we saw tonight, even with those injuries, this is still a great team.
Eagles fans can sleep well tonight after yet another dominant win. We know John Mara won’t be sleeping well though after seeing what Saquon did for the Eagles. Thank you again, Giants.
