Shinedown: Here’s When We’ll Hear New Music
Shinedown are hard at work in the studio, and according to drummer Barry Kerch, we could be hearing new music from the band before this year wraps up.
In a recent interview with WMMR’s Brent Porche, Kerch said that the recording process is “further along than you’d think.” He explains: “Literally, I was in Charleston last week with Eric (Bass, their bassist) at the studio, recording drums for some songs. We’ve been working our butts off. Just ’cause we’re not touring as much this year, it doesn’t mean we’re not working.”
As for when we’ll get to hear what the quartet is working on, Kerch has a timeline in mind: “You’ll hear something, I imagine, by the end of the year, if not beginning of next year… We don’t want to rest. We don’t want to take too much time.”
The musical direction will stay in their lane, but also sound fresh. Kerch says, “It’s gonna be what Shinedown does, which every record is completely different than the last one. It still sounds like Shinedown. You’re never going to change (vocalist) Brent Smith’s voice, but I can’t make Leave a Whisper again. I can’t make Planet Zero again. I can’t make Sound of Madness again. That was then, that was that snapshot of time… We definitely try to grow and evolve and do something different because at the same time, we’re artists, we’re musicians. We want to create what we hear in our heads and that’s what we do. So it’s coming soon, and it’s going to be cool.”
Kerch also noted that Eric Bass, who produced the band’s last two albums, is on board to produce the next LP.
Shinedown are expanding their offerings from the stage to the kitchen with a new hot sauce, which you can read more about here, or watch the interview below.
