Preston & Steve®

The Preston & Steve Camp Out For Hunger was a huge success for the 26th year, and the Philadelphia Flyers guests provided us with some of the most memorable moments of the week.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers have always gotten involved with an event that’s now held within the Wells Fargo Center Complex. This year was certainly no different.

Danny Briere and Keith Jones, the two leaders of the new-look front office, showed up to talk some Flyers hockey and swap stories with Preston & Steve.

The rebuild might take some time while the Flyers climb back into Stanley Cup contention. However, the fan base has a renewed sense of energy and optimism. The team has also turned some heads with a strong start to the 2023-24 season.

Fans at the Wells Fargo Center have enjoyed the skill of Carter Hart, the intensity of Travis Konecny, and the fire of head coach John Tortorella. Briere and Jones talked about the pride the team has shown in their first season under the new leadership group.

Flyers Charities, Preston & Steve

The annual Preston & Steve Camp Out For Hunger has grown to incredible portions. A small food drive has become an unthinkably big event in the city of Philadelphia. The participation of our listeners helps the less fortunate every year before Thanksgiving. WMMR and The Preston & Steve Show are proud to have such an incredible platform for an important cause.

The generous $5,000 donation from Flyers Charities started Camp Out For Hunger on an excellent note on Monday morning. The organization’s history of generosity in the community has persisted through decades. It’s a key part of the proud legacy of late franchise founder Ed Snider.

Every Flyers guest showed up to have some fun and make their contributing effort to support the hungry entering the holiday season.

  • Keith Jones

President of Hockey Operations Keith Jones stayed true to his radio roots and joined Preston & Steve early on a Monday morning. He talked about the Flyers rebuild, the legacy of the late Roman Cechmanek, and the 2023-24 season so far.

“Our guys are proving that we’re going to be a tough out on a nightly basis. I’ve been impressed by that part of it. They seem to really love each other, which is a really important part of the team. We’re going to keep trying to do everything we can to keep an eye on the future to make us better.” -Keith Jones

Blair Listino, President of Flyers Charities, also visited with Keith. She runs an operation that Steve called “a jewel within the organization” because of their proud tradition within the community. Flyers Charities donated $5,000 to Camp Out for Hunger (and they even brought a giant check with them).

  • Danny Briere

Flyers GM and former forward Danny Briere stopped by the broadcast tent on Thursday. First, he shared some memories of an intense, do-or-die game of “hoverboard hockey” at a past Camp Out. He also talked about the transition from Flyers playoff star to front office executive. Nick and Kathy gave him the expected brutal Philly fan treatment.

“We want you to succeed so much because we don’t want to turn on you.” -Nick

“But we will if we have to.” -Kathy

Danny laughed off the jabs and gave some great insight into his appreciation for how much passion Philly sports fans bring to the arena.

“I knew it was going to be intense, but I want to have a job that people care about. That was the same thing as a player. I loved it because, really, people cared about what I was doing. That was really cool, and it’s the same thing now. Managing a team that people care about, you can’t ask for anything better.” -Danny Briere

  • Jim Jackson

Preston said it all when he gave Jim Jackson the intro on Tuesday.

“Our play-by-play guy is well-known to those of you that are fans of The Preston & Steve Show. Many years we’ve heard terms like ‘take a spin on the baby wheel’ and ‘you jabronis,’ Ladies and gentlemen, from NBC Sports Philadelphia, your play-by-play man for the Philadelphia Flyers, Jim Jackson.” -Preston

J.J. showed up to announce the Mini Hoops Madness, the new spin on the City 6 Challenge. They might need to go back to giving him obscure words to use on the Flyers broadcast.

  • Taryn Hatcher

Taryn Hatcher of NBC Sports Philadelphia stopped by with Danny Briere on Thursday. She’s worked on the TV broadcasts for the Flyers, Phillies, and 76ers in recent seasons.

Riding the Can Drop ride with Nick had to be the highlight of her appearance.
