What’s new at my favorite farms?

Merrymead Farm is celebrating the 50-year anniversary of the opening of their store. To honor the anniversary, there are some special nods throughout the farm including an ice cream cone shaped corn maze and a new kids book, “Merry the Great Pumpkin”. Every year at their kickoff event to the fall season, the tale of “The Lighting of the Great Pumpkin” is told. That story, which was told year after year by the owner’s grandmother, has been made into a book that is now available in their store. New at the farm: an 18-passenger train that enhances the trip on the farm with lights and music. As always, their fun wagon ride, hayride, apple sling shot and other activities will be a part of Fall Harvest days, which take place Saturdays and Sundays in October. Don’t forget to grab ice cream sold by the cone or gallon! It’s some of my favorite ice cream. All of their ice cream is made onsite and, in fact, when I spoke to the owner, he had to turn off the machine that was making peanut butter chocolate ice cream so I could hear him!
