Pierre Teaches Sara How to Play a Vinyl Record

It was 10 years ago to the day that we hosted our first “Vinylly Summer” weekend on WMMR. At the time, Sara needed a lesson in physical media, and who better to teach her than the Lord of the LP, Pierre?!

Pierre Robert

It's a Vinylly Summer weekend! WMMR Philadelphia will warm up the studio turntable and track album sides on vinyl from the best for 3 days straight. Every hour, we’ll play one full side of a legendary rock and roll record. Pierre Robert got the ball rolling on his show today (5/24), and our weekend warriors will continue the music through the holiday weekend.

One of those weekend warriors is Radio Sara who, despite being a massive music head, learned how to track these records a little later in life.

As fate would have it, it was 10 years ago to the day that we hosted our first "Vinylly Summer" weekend on this station. At the time, Sara needed a lesson in physical media, and who better to teach her than the Lord of the LP, Pierre?!

Of course, this lesson was demonstrated live on the air. Sara had her homework assigned to her by Professor Pierre, and she studied hard. But nothing could prepare her for what happened next...

A decade later, Sara is much more prepared to cue up the album sides for you to enjoy, along with the rest of our DJs. BONUS: all throughout the weekend, you can enter for a chance to win the Rolling Stones' latest album Hackney Diamonds on 180-gram vinyl AND a pair of tickets to see the Stones on June 11th at Lincoln Financial Field! Click HERE to enter (deadline Mon 5/27/24 at 11:59pm. One entry per person PER DAY).

To listen all weekend wherever you are - city, shore or mountains - ask your smart speaker to "Open MMR" this Memorial Day Weekend, or fire up the free MMR App.

FLASHBACK: WMMR and the Louie Louie Parade

It's International Louie Louie Day (April 11th). It marks the birthday of Richard Berry, who penned "Louie Louie" back in 1955. He released it in 1957 and a version by the Kingsmen gained popularity in 1963, and it's been a pop-rock staple ever since. Learn more history on the song here.

For a short stretch of years in the late 1980s, WMMR hosted the Louie Louie Parade, a joyous singalong through the streets of Philadelphia. Below are a few photos and videos from the Morning Zoo era of our radio station's MMaRchives. This parade is the stuff of legend!

More from the Pierre Robert Show

From roughly 10:30am to somewhere around 3 (we call it Pierre Standard Time) weekdays Philadelphia rocks with (and loves) Pierre Robert on WMMR. Pierre Robert began his illustrious career at the pioneering progressive rock station KSAN, in his hometown San Francisco, but it’s through his uninterrupted 42-year tenure at Philadelphia‘s legendary WMMR that he’s made his mark. One of the city’s most recognizable celebrities will write about being at the center of its live music scene and greeting his legions of fans as if personal friends in the smallest clubs and largest stadiums.
