Team WMMR Takes The Plunge! Special Olympics Polar Plunge 2024

Special Olympics is an incredible organization. EVERYTHING they do is to make sure their athletes don’t have to pay for one single thing: no equipment, no coaching, no field time, nothing. Their mission is to provide year-round sports training and competition and a variety of sports for kids and adults with intellectual disabilities. With events like the Polar Plunge, they are able to give their athletes opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience so much joy and participate in the sharing of gifts and skills and friendship with their families. Special Olympic athletes are awesome and what they bring to the community is just incredible.

The Polar Plunge is a fundraising event to help support that year-round mission. I have done one or two Polar Plunges in the past, but never one at the Ballpark! So this was exciting and fun, and definitely a challenge. And even though the temperature on Saturday was in the 50’s, that water was COLD!

There were over 1700 participants taking the plunge, including our Team from WMMR, a team of Philadelphia Police, the Philly Ball Girls, volunteers from Wawa, and many more.

Overall donations are currently at $432,000 and counting! They are still accepting donations at phillyplunge.org, including to Team WMMR. We’re over $6000, which is not bad for our first year of participation!
