Noel Gallagher Headlining First Concert At Manchester Arena Since Terrorist Attack
After being criticized by his brother, but no one else, for not performing at the One Manchester concert in June, Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds will headline a concert re-opening Manchester Arena on September 9 — the first even there since the May 22 terror attack at an Ariana Grande concert that left 22 people dead.
Gallagher will be joined by the Courteeners, Blossoms, Rick Astley, Longfella and a DJ set by Inspiral Carpets’ Clint Boon. More acts are expected to be announced as well.
Proceeds from the show will go to the Manchester Memorial Fund, which plans to erect a permanent monument to the victims of the attach. The fund is also giving $324,000 to families of each of the victims.
Liam Gallagher, who was also Noel’s bandmate in Oasis, played with Coldplay at the One Love Manchester show and slammed Noel for not appearing there. His complaints were quickly quieted by others, however, especially when it was learned that Noel Gallagher was donating royalties from Oasis’ “Don’t Look Back In Anger” to the memorial fund.
The fund has raised more than $24.5 million since it was established in the wake of the attack.
