Trebek has hosted Jeopardy since its 1984 debut in syndication.
Trebek revealed in March 2019 that he had been diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. Last year, he told USA Today that “The thought of the pancreatic cancer does not frighten me. I’m not afraid of dying. One thing they’re not going to say at my funeral as part of a eulogy: ‘He was taken from us too soon.’ I’m 79 years old. I have lived a good life, a full life and I’m nearing the end of that life. I know that. I’m not going to delude myself.”
Alex Trebek is irreplaceable. Not just as the host of "Jeopardy," but even more as an inspiration and example of how to live your life with grace and dignity. We knew it was coming and it is still a crippling shock. God bless Alex Trebek.

Alex continued to work, even after a pancreatic cancer diagnosis & even during a global pandemic. He made a lot of people very happy for a very long time. It’s a good legacy to leave behind. I’m sad to lose him but that’s a bit selfish. I’m grateful he was in my life for so long.

One time I got invited to the National Geographic gala in DC. So obviously I said yes. After dinner they started thanking donors. They named people who gave $1K. Then $10K. Then $100K. And then a guy who gave a MILLION. To the GEOGRAPHY BEE. And he stands up and it’s Alex Trebek.

Alex Trebek was kind enough to film a cameo for our film Free Guy last year despite his battle. He was gracious and funny. In addition to being curious, stalwart, generous, reassuring and of course, Canadian. We love you, Alex. And always will.
