Wrexham AFC v Philadelphia Union II Friendly Coming To Chester This Summer
Wrexham AFC, the Welsh soccer team co-owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, announced that it will play a friendly against Philadelphia Union II on July 28th at Subaru Park in Chester, PA.
The match will be part of Wrexham’s summer tour of the United States. Other stops include North Carolina, San Diego and Los Angeles.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Wrexham AFC to Subaru Park,” said President of the Philadelphia Union, Tim McDermott. “They have successfully captured a worldwide audience with their National League title and subsequent promotion to EFL League Two. We look forward to an exciting match and the opportunity it brings for Philadelphia Union II to showcase their talent. It will be such a great experience for fans to witness the clash between these two clubs and see the skills on display.”
This matchup has been a long time coming. Rob first proposed the idea of bringing his team to his hometown in 2021. Travel restrictions and safety concerns prevented the trip from happening at the time… which makes this announcement even sweeter.
Wrexham’s 2023 USA Invasion is somewhat of a victory lap. In April, the team clinched the National League title and won promotion to the English Football League. Their first time back to the EFL since the 2007-2008 season.

Ryan and Rob have brought worldwide attention to the team through the docuseries, “Welcome to Wrexham.” The 18-episode series followed not just the stars through their stressful acquisition of the team, but it also told the stories of players and fans. A second season is already being produced.
Tickets for the match between Wrexham and The Union will go on sale on June 23. Visit PhiladelphiaUnion.com to join the priority list.
Sidenote: The USA Invasion announcement came on the same day that the It’s Always Sunny Podcast, which is hosted by Rob, Glenn Howerton & Charlie Day, announced that it’s returning to Philly. Learn more about that here and enter to win tickets from WMMR.
