WMMR Celebrates Black History Month: Week One
WMMR and Jacky BamBam are celebrating Black History Month. We are honoring the African-American artists who were fundamental in the evolution of everything that rocks.
Every weeknight in February, at 8 pm, Jacky BamBam will turn the spotlight on the music of incredible and influential black artists.
Starting on February 1, 2024, Jacky began this foray into the founders of rock. Here are the artists he covered in the first week (Feb 1 & 2).
The Temptations
The Temptations, with classy dance moves, creative costumes, and smooth vocals, helped rock n roll along. The small group from Detroit had a huge impact on modern society. From addressing social issues such as racial injustice to revolutionizing rhythm and blues music, this group had a huge impact.
Soul Train’s Don Cornelius
Don Cornelius was the creator of the music show Soul Train, which he hosted from 1970 until 1993. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2023. As writer, producer, and host of Soul Train, he was instrumental in offering wider exposure to black musicians. He featured the likes of James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, and Michael Jackson.
Big Joe Turner
Big Joe Turner was an American blues shouter from Kansas City, Missouri. Rock and roll would have never happened without him. The Boss of Blues was a major contributor to the birth of rock as we know it.
He is celebrating Black History Month the way only WMMR and Jacky BamBam can! It’s all part of everything that rocks.
