Philabundance Kicks Off 40th Anniversary With Birthday Box Initiative

The concept is delightfully simple yet impactful. Birthday boxes allow everyone to celebrate their birthday.

Philabundance, a cornerstone of the Philadelphia region's fight against hunger, is celebrating a milestone birthday: 40 years of nourishing the community! And what better way to commemorate this incredible feat than by throwing a massive birthday bash...with a twist!

On Saturday, May 11th, Philabundance Galloway Warehouse transformed into a bustling birthday bonanza. Volunteers, brimming with community spirit, joined forces to pack special birthday boxes ensuring that no one in need goes without a birthday treat.

The concept is delightfully simple yet impactful. Birthday boxes allow everyone to celebrate their birthday. The box includes birthday cake mix, frosting, brownie mix, oil, applesauce, which can be used as an egg substitute, and candles to blow out on their special day.

Philabundance's 40th birthday bash wasn't just about packing boxes; it was about celebrating the collective power of community. The warehouse buzzed with an infectious energy as volunteers of all came together to pack 1000 boxes that will be distributed across the Delaware Valley.

The event also served as a heartwarming reminder of Philabundance's enduring legacy. Throughout its 40 years, the organization has remained steadfast in its mission to fight hunger and nourish lives.

[PHOTOS] Camp Out For Hunger 2023: Day #4

Music was the theme of Camp Out For Hunger Day #4.

We kept our talented team of engineers super busy with THREE separate bands performing all in one morning. Technically one is an orchestra, so that made it extra fun! Every morning, we have a new house band. On Day #4, the band was Goodman Fisk. The lead singer, Ryan Wade, is MMR's Local Shot artist of the month.

Don McCloskey and The Band shuffled in and shook the stage. Performing two songs and running through the crowd. The stage had a complete turnover and The No Name Pops flooded in with string, horn, and percussion sections. We were treated to a song on air, then a full concert after the show.

That's just a tiny portion of the morning. Danny Briere came by with Taryn Hatcher. We learned that the Flyers (and Sixers + Phillies) sideline reporter is a trivia buff! Naturally we had to pit her against our own Quizzo Champ, Nick McIlwain, on the Can Drop.

There were lots more donations and Preston & Steve listeners blowing us away with their creativity. All before 11am! In the afternoon, Pierre was visited by the SWAT Team and got to play with big toys. Brent kicked off t-shirt night and TOOL pre-show party. Mike Jerrick and Alex Holley from Fox 29 stopped by and Jacky Bam Bam hosted story time with the kids.
