Shinedown: Here’s When We’ll Hear New Music

In an interview with WMMR’s Brent Porche, Barry Kerch said that new Shinedown music is “further along than you’d think.”

Shinedown are hard at work in the studio, and according to drummer Barry Kerch, we could be hearing new music from the band before this year wraps up.

In a recent interview with WMMR's Brent Porche, Kerch said that the recording process is "further along than you'd think." He explains: "Literally, I was in Charleston last week with Eric (Bass, their bassist) at the studio, recording drums for some songs. We've been working our butts off. Just 'cause we're not touring as much this year, it doesn't mean we're not working."

As for when we'll get to hear what the quartet is working on, Kerch has a timeline in mind: "You'll hear something, I imagine, by the end of the year, if not beginning of next year... We don't want to rest. We don't want to take too much time."

The musical direction will stay in their lane, but also sound fresh. Kerch says, "It's gonna be what Shinedown does, which every record is completely different than the last one. It still sounds like Shinedown. You're never going to change (vocalist) Brent Smith's voice, but I can't make Leave a Whisper again. I can't make Planet Zero again. I can't make Sound of Madness again. That was then, that was that snapshot of time... We definitely try to grow and evolve and do something different because at the same time, we're artists, we're musicians. We want to create what we hear in our heads and that's what we do. So it's coming soon, and it's going to be cool."

Kerch also noted that Eric Bass, who produced the band's last two albums, is on board to produce the next LP.

Shinedown are expanding their offerings from the stage to the kitchen with a new hot sauce, which you can read more about here, or watch the interview below.

More from Brent Porche

It is certainly hard to believe that the 2023 MMRBQ is already a week+ in the rearview mirror, but the energy and the vibe that came out of this year's event continues on.

This year's all-day festival was just the third time in over 16 years of MMRBQ's that we held our massive MMR Concert Event at the end of the summer rather than in the middle of May. Mother Nature was smiling down on us in beautiful, tropical, downtown Camden, New Jersey, as she delivered some of the most amazing weather and temperatures that we have had all summer.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in person at the show or listened on-air or online to our complete concert coverage. All of us at WMMR truly appreciate your friendship!

Shinedown at MMRBQ

"My Boys" in Shinedown headlined the MMR*B*Q for the second time this year, bringing their Planet Zero World Tour to the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion. And as Brent Smith told us leading up to the MMRBQ, Shinedown brought ALL of their "bells & whistles," the songs, the screens and certainly a LOT of pyro!

You could tell Brent, Zach, Eric & Barry were certainly feeling the love from the WMMR audience. Their energy was reflective of that during their performance. Brent had some very kind words for the station multiple times over the course of the night. After all, WMMR is one of the very first stations in the entire world to play Shinedown on the radio, and the band hasn't forgotten that.

Having personally seen Shinedown dozens and dozens of times all over the country, I can truly say that this year's MMR*B*Q performance from "My Boys" was among the very BEST that I have ever seen them. And if you haven't seen the full videos of "A Symptom of Being Human" and "Cut the Cord" from this year's MMR*B*Q, you can view them here.

I had a chance to catch Shinedown on their "The Revolutions Live" tour with Papa Roach and Spiritbox at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on Sunday, so even more pictures and video from Shinedown (and Papa Roach & Spiritbox) will be posted right here in the coming days!

Thank YOU again for such a great MMRBQ this year! Let's do it again soon!!
