Eagles Are On the Hunt for New Offensive Coordinator: What Are Their Priorities?
The Philadelphia Eagles are on the hunt for a new offensive coordinator for the third consecutive season following Kellen Moore’s exit from the team to become the head coach of the New Orleans Saints. The Eagles franchise wants to be strategic in its hiring for the team’s replacement for Moore, and it has identified several traits necessary in a new offensive coordinator.
Left tackle Jordan Mailata told NJ.com that he wants someone who can listen and put an ego aside. “Kellen did that for us by just giving us a space to say whatever we wanted about a play and problem-solve together. That was a big part of this year,” he said. “Whether it was the receivers going to him or the O-line talking to him about run plays and just asking the ‘why’ about it, there was never any animosity or belittling.”
Right tackle Lane Johnson commented that communication between the offensive coordinator and players is key. He noted Moore’s patience and openness that allowed him to keep plays simple while remaining complex-looking to a team’s defense.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts underscored the importance of team chemistry in a CBS News report. “I think for us as an offense, the more assertive I became throughout the year, the more in sync and the more rhythm we had,” he said. “There’s been a lot of changes and a lot of different things, and I know every coordinator has their own approach and their own way of seeing it, but it’s just about meshing that.”
Meanwhile, Moore is contemplating how to fill out his coaching roster for the Saints, adding another Eagles assistant coach to his corner. Jemal Singleton is the third Eagles assistant coach Moore is considering. An NBC News Philadelphia story cited an ESPN report that Singleton has interviewed for the Saints’ offensive coordinator opening under Moore.
