Metallica Dedicate ‘Whiskey in the Jar’ to Phil Lynott at Ireland Gig
Metallica performed before a massive crowd of 75,000 people at Slane Castle in Ireland over the weekend and in the process paid tribute to one of the country’s biggest music icons.
Part of Metallica’s set included Thin Lizzy‘s “Whiskey in the Jar,” which the band originally covered on 1998’s Garage, Inc. At the end of the song, James Hetfield exclaimed, “We love you, Philip,” in honor of Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott, who died in 1986.
Metallica’s Slane Castle show was the first time the band played in Ireland since a show in Dublin in 2009.

(Sir Paul McCartney inducting Foo Fighters? C'mon now!) She's also well-versed in etiquette and extraordinarily nice. #TransRightsAreHumanRights
