With the announcement of Josh Freese stepping in as the next drummer of the Foo Fighters, the internet has been buzzing about his impressive resume. He’s worked with Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer and a ton of other acts since he began his career at age 12.
In this 2015 interview from the MMaRchives, Pierre Robert asked Josh (who was in town with Sublime with Rome at the time) about his favorite musical projects, and what it was like to work with Devo.
“The first Vandals album I made in 1990, Fear of a Punk Planet, Bob Casale (Devo guitarist ‘Bob 2’) produced,” he explains, “and I kinda clung onto him, because I was 17… I was like ‘Dude, I’m your biggest fan!’ and I remained friends with him. Devo was kind of on hiatus at the time, and they started playing shows again in ’96… and they all wanted to be involved except the original drummer. So Bob said “Oh, I know this kid from the Vandals, he’ll do it for peanuts. So I started working with them, and (now) I’ve worked with them for 20 years.”
The most interesting part, though, was when Pierre brought up some of the packages available for sale on Josh’s website. What can you get if you cut him a check for $75,000?
The answer: a shroom trip and joy ride in Danny Carey‘s Lamborghini, among other fun things.
