The Killers Tease New Single “Your Side of Town”
The Killers have announced a new single, the Las Vegas band’s first since they put out the one-off single “boy” last year. WMMR will debut the song this Friday.
They posted on their social accounts: “Hello everyone, With much excitement we present you with Your Side of Town. It’s got the ghosts of a lot of the synth music that inspired us over the years. And yet, somehow, feels completely our own. Now it’s yours! Turn it up.”
“Your Side of Town” is now available to pre-save across streaming platforms. We’ll get the entire track this Friday, August 25th. It looks like we’ll get a stunning visual to go with it, judging by this clip that they posted showing a mysterious performer in a black-and-white traffic tunnel.
If the group is on point with their description of a synth-heavy sound, we can expect the new song to draw influence from the Cars, a band that Killers frontman Brandon Flowers inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. Pierre Robert was on site for the induction ceremony.
There’s no word yet on if a full album from the Killers is on the horizon, but we do know they’ve been tapped as potential halftime performers for Super Bowl LVIII.
10 Best-Selling Artists in the U.S. of All Time
There have been countless hit-makers in music history, but which artists are quite literally the best-selling artists in the United States of all time? Thanks to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), we can determine just that.
One of the most notable things the RIAA does is award albums and other title certifications based on sales. The RIAA has three certification levels:
-Gold: Awarded to titles that have sold a minimum of 500,000 units.
-Platinum: Awarded to titles that have sold a minimum of 1 million units.
-Diamond: Awarded to titles that have sold a minimum of 10 million units.
Title tallies are measured in “units.” These units are determined in three ways:
-The sale of a physical or digital album counts as 1 unit.
-The individual sale of 10 digital tracks from an album counts as 1 unit.
-1,500 on-demand audio/video streams from an album count as 1 unit.
According to the RIAA’s certification criteria, a title becomes eligible for certification 30 days after its release date for physical titles and the same day of release for digital titles. In order for a title to be certified, the RIAA states, “Applicants must submit specific sales and streaming figures at each level threshold, along with other criteria, to qualify for certification.”
In other words: A lot of effort and statistical analysis goes into the RIAA’s certification process. (If you care to read about every single little detail about the certification process, you can do so here.)
With all of this in mind, keep scrolling to find out who are the ten best-selling artists in the United States of all time. With every artist, you’ll learn which of their titles have moved the most units. (Spoiler: Brace yourself for some mind-blowing numbers! Seriously, they’re going to make your head spin.)
From roughly 10:30am to somewhere around 3 (we call it Pierre Standard Time) weekdays Philadelphia rocks with (and loves) Pierre Robert on WMMR. Pierre Robert began his illustrious career at the pioneering progressive rock station KSAN, in his hometown San Francisco, but it’s through his uninterrupted 42-year tenure at Philadelphia‘s legendary WMMR that he’s made his mark. One of the city’s most recognizable celebrities will write about being at the center of its live music scene and greeting his legions of fans as if personal friends in the smallest clubs and largest stadiums.
