WMMR Promo: The “Dune” saga continues!
Some of these sequel titles sound a little more familiar than others…
We had to wait so long for Dune: Part One, and now it looks like we’ll have to wait even longer for Dune: Part Two. That’s a bummer, of course, but if the sequel is as remotely great as the first chapter, it’ll be worth the wait!
The saga of Paul Atreides is a fascinating one, of course. The original novel, Dune, was written by Frank Herbert and came out in 1965. It even won a Hugo Award in 1966! Fans of science fiction loved these novels not just because of the sci-fi genre, but because Herbert’s writing blended in layers of politics, religion, ecology, technology and human emotion, all set against the background of the noble houses the trade of “spice”.
“Dune” was so popular that Herbert wrote five sequels: Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, and Chapterhouse: Dune. After Herbert passed away in 1986, his son, Brian Herbert, and another author, Kevin Anderson, continued the series with more than 12 additional novels over the last 2+ decades.
The Denis Villeneuve version of the movie, “Dune”, which came out in 2021, was delayed because of the pandemic and recently, Warner Bros announced that the sequel, which was going to released this November, is now delayed until at least March of 2024. A spokesperson said the movie would not be released because of the Hollywood actors’ strike continues and that means that the movie’s stars, like Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya, cannot promote it.
Dune: Part Two had been one of the most anticipated films of 2023, but now, the new release date also means the movie is now out of contention for next year’s awards season.
So… We gotta wait. Again. But when it’s FINALLY in theaters, we know we’re gonna love it!
