Radio SaraCage the Elephant have returned from a five year absence with a brand new song called "Neon Pill," which premiered at the stroke of midnight on Friday morning (1/19) on WMMR in Philadelphia.
"Neon Pill" is the first music we've heard from the Kentucky-based alt-rockers since their 2019 album Social Cues. A press release notes that this track was recorded with producer John Hill at Sonic Ranch in Texas. They haven't announced any album details, but fans are hopeful that a full LP will arrive before the end of the year. You can hear the new song on WMMR, or stream it in the player below.
While we wait on the details of their next studio album, which will be their sixth, we're pulling one of our favorite sessions out of the MMaRchives. The band have visited the our studios a bunch over the years, but this particular session from 2016 sees Pierre Robert hosting an Q&A and stripped down performance with the band in front of an audience of massive Cage fans. These renditions of "Come a Little Closer" and "Mess Around" - which are exclusive to the MMaRchives - are remarkable in their raw form. Watch the performance and full interview below.
One of the highlights of their conversation happens towards the end of the session when Pierre plays back a chaotic station ID that the band recorded for WMMR a couple of years prior. The group's reactions are priceless. Watch that play out around the 25:25 mark.
