A message from Johnny: My father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 65 and sadly we lost him April 22 of 2023. During that time my sister was extremely hands on with his care and helping our mother through the entire process. Melanie is a nurse practitioner and knew everything, even down to how his medication was administered. She also started a fundraiser on Facebook called “Jacks pack” and was the single highest raiser of money (raising 10’s of thousands) for Alzheimer’s in the state of Pennsylvania and gained attention for her efforts and was interview by Nadia Han at Melanie’s residence earlier this year. However, during  the period when my father’s decline was becoming rapid , John, her husband, was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer.  Obviously that became a tumultuous task for my sister to endure taking care of both patients , with very different but high degrees of needs.  She still managed to raise her three sons and even continued more fundraising through Jacks Pack after we lost our dad. Now things have become too much financially. John is a private contractor and was forced to get a colostomy bag. They tried to pursue getting disability on 4 occasions and were turned down every time for reasons I find grotesque. They were told if they divorced , they’d have a better chance of receiving money as single parents and/ or if John were to be announced as terminal , they would pay him.  The latter reason obviously because he’d be dead and payments sent to him wouldn’t need to be that long!  Broken system at work!
Due to the astronomical medical bills, other aspects of their lives became adversely affected. Foreclosure notice on their home, the inability to pay for their kids to go to school. Once I heard of the foreclosure I knew I had to step in. My sister is working two jobs and fighting off mental breakdowns. I can’t sit back and watch hard working, normal American  people, who have paid into the system their entire lives , lose everything.  My sister has done so much for so many, and I told her that good karma has to come back to her and I will captain that ship! So with the help of my brothers in Mr Greengenes and several other musicians/ friends in the area, I hope we can raise some money and give them some kind of relief.
As an add on, yesterday morning I received word that they have indefinitely put off the colostomy back reversal surgery for John because he went into anaphylactic shock during a routine procedure and they need to figure out the cause before putting him back under sedation. And so now it’s unlikely he can work anytime soon and the second surgery will only add on more huge medical bills. Needless to say, I need to fight for my family. I’m fortunate to have a platform I can use and I will use it as best I can to get my family to a place of peace. I need John to get better , I need my mother to stop crying herself to sleep and I need my sister to have hope that a normal life is on the horizon.
Thank you for hearing this story and helping me with this endeavor

Much gratitude and love,  Johnny “Phatt” McGee
