Dorothy Talks New Album, Songs with Slash, and MMRBQ 2025 [INTERVIEW]
With MMRBQ 2025 fast approaching, WMMR’s Brent Porche caught up with Dorothy Martin, frontwoman of the band Dorothy, who will join us at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion on Saturday May 10th. You can watch their conversation below.
New Album ‘The Way’
Dorothy’s a longtime friend of WMMR, and now she’s got a new album for us: The Way, her fourth LP out now via Roc Nation. The album delivers 10 powerful tracks, including the singles “MUD” and “Tombstone Town”, the latter featuring none other than Slash. Having a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Guns N’ Roses legend on the record is a standout moment for her musically, with his riffs adding an extra layer of intensity to that song.
Reflecting on the album as a whole, she describes The Way as a “love letter to the fans.” The title track, which closes out the album, carries a deep emotional weight that longtime listeners will appreciate. Dorothy’s signature mix of bluesy, gritty rock shines through on this record, and fans of her past albums will find plenty to love.
You know we love our vinyl here at WMMR, and for fellow record collectors, there are some cool options out there, including a tangerine orange and black splattered variant. For those who love a retro vibe, you can even get it on cassette!
Looking Ahead
Next year will mark the 10th anniversary of Dorothy’s debut album Rockisdead. It’s hard to believe a decade has passed since that breakout record, which introduced fans to her powerful voice and blues-infused sound. Dorothy has continued to evolve as an artist, and The Way proves that she’s still pushing forward with new ideas and collaborations.
Beyond her own album, the singer also appears on Slash’s latest blues record Orgy of the Damned, which came out last year. She told Brent about how that collaboration came together and how it felt to work with a guitarist of his legendary status. She also shared stories about some of her earliest musical influences and the concerts that had the biggest impact on her growing up.
Dorothy at MMRBQ 2025
Dorothy and her band will return to the MMRBQ stage in a few weeks, joining a lineup that includes Alice in Chains, Three Days Grace, Mammoth WVH, Dead Poet Society, Octane, Return to Dust, and Fat Mezz. It’s shaping up to be an incredible day of live music, and if you want to be there, save your seat now (or party on the lawn!). Right now there’s a limited time deal happening: MMR 4-Packs are available for $100, plus tax, while supplies last. A full day of rock for under $30 per person? You can’t beat it!
Before Dorothy’s set, the first four bands of the day are general admission, meaning fans can get as close to the stage as they want – including the pit. For those who love the energy of a packed show, this is an opportunity to see some amazing bands up close. MMRBQ has always been one of the biggest rock events of the year in Philadelphia, and with this lineup, May 10th is set to be no different.
With a new album out, a big show at MMRBQ, and a milestone anniversary ahead, Dorothy is set for an exciting year. If you haven’t listened to The Way yet, now’s the perfect time. And if you want to see her live, MMRBQ 2025 is the place to be.
