FLASHBACK: Peter Gabriel Performs Live on WMMR
Peter Gabriel performed at the Wells Fargo Center on September 16. The show was part of the 'io' tour.
Peter Gabriel, or as we like to call him, the Patron Saint, celebrates a birthday today (2/13).
Here at WMMR, we’ve got a long history with this incredible artist. Let’s take you back to 1986, when the station would broadcast live from London via satellite once a year. In November of ’86, John DeBella was in London doing a week of shows from Capital Radio Studios (‘The Professor’ Kevin Gunn also traveled to London to produce these broadcasts). Peter stopped by, and they recorded an interview in one of the larger rooms in the studios, which happened to have a grand piano in it. At the end of the interview DeBella invited Peter to do a song, and he elected to sit at the piano and play “Here Comes The Flood,” the closing track on his debut solo album. Listen to that beautiful rendition from the MMaRchives right here:
Note: This podcast episode originally aired on April 12, 2018.
Peter Gabriel recently brought his i/o: The Tour to the Wells Fargo Center, showcasing his hits over the years as well as music from his new double album. Leading up to that release last year, Peter would put out a new song monthly on the occasion of each full moon, culminating in the full i/o LP. This was his first new material in over a decade, and it was released as two different mixes: the “Bright-Side Mix” and “Dark-Side Mix”. Why? Peter couldn’t decide between two producers that he loved, so he decided to work with both! Mark Stent’s work is heard on the “bright” side while Tchad Blake contributed to the “dark” side. The track listing on each is the same, but this allows fans to choose a sound based on their mood (or, compare them by listening back-to-back).
His live show reflected the lunar concept; see the official concert gallery and recap from that show here, or scroll further down the page to see the photos.

Peter Gabriel visited the Well Fargo Center in South Philadelphia on Saturday, September 16, 2023 as part of the i/o tour.
Steve Hackett, Phil Collins, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford helped Peter Gabriel make up Genesis. During the 1970s, they developed a reputation as one of the most popular progressive rock bands of the era.
Peter Gabriel i/o at the Wells Fargo Center
Gabriel released his 10th studio album i/o in 2023. The i/o tour includes stops in 12 different cities in the United States and Canada. It will wrap up at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on October 13.
The Philadelphia show included the majority of the tacks from i/o. However, the long-time Genesis star mixed in some of his biggest hits. He ended his second set with “Solsbury Hill” followed by “In Your Eyes” as part of the encore.
