Throwback Thursday: Looking Back at 11 Years of Cardboard Classic Sleds [Part 1]
Back in 2006, Preston had an idea: have listeners build sleds using only 4 materials (Cardboard, Tape, String and Glue) and race them down a snow tubing hill. It took a lot of convincing, but the bosses at WMMR and JFBB added the The Cardboard Classic to MMR’s Day Off on the Slopes #2 (a station tradition since the mid-80’s). We did not quite know what to expect… of course your creativity blew us away!
Here is a look back some of the crazy sleds from over the years…
Sasquatch – 2015 (which fell over in .5 seconds – video)
Motorcycle Club – 2014
A fully functional pool table:
Can you name the TV shows that inspired these sleds? (answers below)
Lost (2006), Price is Right (2013), Munsters (2015), Gilligan’s Island (2013)
Then there was the guy who made a giant snow ball. He told us the ride was a lot more bumpy than he expected…
The tiki bars have grown over the years:

2007 WMMR 93.3FM “Day Off at the Slopes” & Preston & Steve’s 2nd annual Card board Classic. Held at Jack Frost/Big Boulder Ski Resort on March 2, 2007.
2013 Tiki Bar
Some teams bring a taste of Philly to Poconos:
The 700 Level – 2014
Frankford El – 2009
Philly Pub Crawl – 2011
Yo, Adrian! 2012
Mummers Museum – 2013
Only God Saves More Than Bernie – 2013
And every year we meet new, crazy, naked guys:
2012
2010
2007
One year we decided to burn all the sleds at the end. It looked cool for a few minutes, then we realized that was a really, really bad idea. Live and learn!

2007 WMMR 93.3FM “Day Off at the Slopes” & Preston & Steve’s 2nd annual Card board Classic. Held at Jack Frost/Big Boulder Ski Resort on March 2, 2007.
Look for part two of this series on the Road to the Cardboard Classic and make plans to join us at Jack Frost for the Cardboard Classic 2017 on Friday, March 3rd!
