Is “The Electric Slide” about a Girl & Her Vibrator?
Podcast – The song meaning that blew our mind:
Have you ever really actually listened to the “The Electric Slide” lyrics?
You can’t see it
You gotta feel it
Ooh, it’s shakin’
Jiggle-a-mesa-cara
She’s a pumpin’ like a matic
She’s a movin’ like electric
She sure got the boogie
You gotta know it
It’s electric [Boogie woogie, woogie!]
Now you can’t hold it
It’s electric [Boogie woogie, woogie!]
But you know it there
Yeah here there everywhere
I’ve got to move
I’m going on a party ride
I’ve got to groove, groove, groove
And from this music
I just can’t hide
Are you comin’ with me?
Come let me take you on a party ride
And I’ll teach you, teach you, teach you
I’ll teach you the electric slide
Some say it’s mystic
You can’t resist it
You can’t do without it
Jiggle-a-mesa-cara she’s a pumpin’ like a matic
She’s movin’ like electric
She sure got the boogie
Don’t wanna lose it
But you can’t choose it
But you know it’s there
Yeah here there everywhere
A new rumor going around the internet claims that the song is about a vibrator, not a dance craze. It started with an interview with the 71 year old original songwriter Neville Livingston who told the source, “I’m surprised it took people this long to figure out!”
It took a few days and some good investigating for another source to track down singer, Marcia Griffiths. Turns out she’s furious people would cheapen her “pure and happy” song. The singer/writer states the song she wrote in less than 24 hours to the beat of a small music box is about “positive vibrations, not vibrators.” So there you go.
It’s officially NOT CREEPY to do the Electric Side with you mom.
