Happy Birthday Rob Zombie!
Happy Birthday Rob Zombie! The Devilman was born Robert Bartleh Cummings on this day, January 12th, 1965 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Zombie initially rose to fame as a founding member and frontman of the band White Zombie. Formed in New York City in 1985, their big break didn’t come until 1992 with the release of their third studio album ‘La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume One’ and the huge hit single “Thunder Kiss ‘65”. From there, the band only released one more full-length album of original material, 1995’s ‘Astro-Creep 2000’, before eventually disbanding.
Fast forward 3 years to August of 1998, and the release of his debut solo album ‘Hellbilly Deluxe: 13 Takes of Cadaverous Cavorting Inside the Spookshow International’. The album would portray Zombie’s love for classic horror films, heavy metal & electronic music with such smash hits as “Dragula”, “Living Dead Girl” & “Superbeast”. White Zombie disbanded a month after the release of this album. Since then, Zombie has released seven studio albums including his latest, 2021’s ‘The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy. One thing is for certain, Zombie loves the super long album titles and even more so, super long song titles! For example, MMR was playing Zombie’s single “The Triumph of King Freak (A Crypt of Preservation and Superstition)” off his latest album – which also features the track “18th Century Cannibals, Excitable Morlocks and a One-Way Ticket on the Ghost Train”… like, really dude?? I feel like he does this just to mess with the radio DJ’s and presenters of his songs.
Even though Zombie continues to tour fairly regularly, his main passion is making movies. His directorial debut came in 2000 with the release of the film ‘House of 1000 Corpses’, of which he also wrote & co-scored the music. Since 2003, Zombie has written, produced and/or directed 11 films, including 2022’s ‘The Munsters.”
Fun fact: Rob Zombie was a production assistant for the ‘Pee-wee’s Playhouse’ television series in 1986! Yup! Maybe that helped ‘fund’ future White Zombie releases?
Rob’s passion for heavy metal & horror continues to this day both on stage and screen. The theatrics and stage production of his concerts is always top-notch and a ton of fun to witness live! A must-add to your concert resume for sure!
Happy 58th Birthday to Rob Zombie! -bp
