Rome Ramirez Announces Departure from Sublime with Rome
Rome Ramirez, the frontman and guitarist of SoCal rockers Sublime with Rome for the past 15 years, just announced he will be departing the band at the end of 2024.
Ramirez, born in Fremont, California began playing guitar at the age of 11, with one of the first songs he learned being a Sublime song. In 2009, the surviving members of Sublime made an attempt to reform the band with Rome as the frontman and guitarist. However, the estate of late Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell owns the rights to the Sublime name and denied their request to carry on the name without Bradley.
This forced the line-up of original members Bud Gaugh (Drums) and Eric Wilson (Bass) along with new frontman Ramirez to change their name to Sublime with Rome.
Sublime with Rome released 3 studio albums beginning with 2011’s Yours Truly, followed by 2015’s Sirens (a favorite of mine), and 2019’s Blessings. SwR just released a new EP in November titled Tangerine Skies. They also embarked on several tours, many of which had stops through the Philadelphia area with the likes of Cypress Hill, The Offspring, Incubus, and others.
Ramirez is leaving Sublime with Rome to focus on his solo music. He is teasing “really big news” on the horizon that he will be revealing in the new year as well.
The Sublime with Rome shows scheduled for 2024, including the “Bongwalk Empire” show with Cypress Hill & Action Bronson at the Hard Rock in Atlantic City on 4/20/24 will be a celebration of the last 15 years together with Sublime Rome.
In the meantime, Ramirez will be making a stop at Philadelphia’s City Winery on March 3rd with DuddyB of the Dirty Heads and tickets are on sale now.
