WMMR Eclipse Soundtrack with Brent Porche
This past Monday, April 8th, 2024, millions of people across North America – and the world – were witness to a rare solar eclipse. Here in Philadelphia, we were so excited that we dedicated the afternoon soundtrack to this celestial event.
Even though the clouds obscured our view, we had a great time going on a musical journey with sun, moon and space songs on the air at WMMR. Here’s a rundown of the songs that Pierre and Brent played that day.
Eclipse Songs on WMMR, Played by Pierre Robert
Fuel – Sunburn
Van Morrison – Moondance (Pierre’s Vinyl Cut)
Pearl Jam – Dark Matter
Manfred Mann’s Earth Band – Blinded by the Light
U2 – Staring at the Sun
More Eclipse Songs on WMMR, Played by Brent Porche
The Police – Invisible Sun
Soundgarden – Black Hole Sun
Pink Floyd – Brain Damage / Eclipse
Ozzy Osbourne – Bark at the Moon
Bruce Springsteen – Dancing in the Dark
Pink Floyd – The Great Gig in the Sky
Muse – Supermassive Black Hole
Social Distortion – Ring of Fire
Hoobastank – Crawling in the Dark
During the blocks of music, Marisa Magnatta of the Preston & Steve Show called in from Center City Philadelphia to give us an update on her vantage point. Once Brent stepped up to the mic back in the studio, Pierre and his producer Pancake ventured up to the roof of One Bala Plaza in Bala Cynwyd (home of WMMR’s Pierre Robert Studios) and attempted to catch a glimpse of the eclipse through the cloud cover that had quite abruptly (and rudely, thanks a lot Mother Nature!) settled in the sky over Philly.
The next solar eclipse will be visible from our corner of the Earth in August of 2045, per 6ABC.
