A Beloved Upper Darby Dining Establishment Announces Business Closure
A beloved Upper Darby dining establishment has announced its business closure. Pica’s Restaurant on West Chester Pike announced on Thursday, March 20, that it will close this summer.
The restaurant has served legions of Delaware County residents over the nearly 70 years it has served the community.
According to a Daily Times report, the restaurant moved from 62nd and Race in West Philly to 7803 West Chester Pike in Upper Darby in 1956.
“From our humble beginnings in West Philadelphia, founded by Frank Pica Sr., to our cherished location here in Upper Darby, which was led by Frank Pica Jr. for many decades and now, we, the third generation, have been honored to be a part of your lives and celebrations,” said a notice posted to the restaurant’s website and social media.
“Pica’s Upper Darby has been a gathering place where families have come together, friendships have blossomed, and countless memories have been made. You have been more than just customers to us; you are family.”
The restaurant opened a second location in the West Chester area in 2017. Frank Pica Jr., the second-generation owner, died in 2021.
The Pica’s name reached celebrity status in 2014 when Upper Darby-born star Tina Fey enjoyed its food on national television.
According to the restaurant, the owners are hoping to open a smaller location in Delaware County. The West Chester-area restaurant will remain open. Gift cards can be redeemed at this location. The closing date for Upper Darby has not been announced.
