LISTEN: A7X’s Cover of Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows”
Avenged Sevenfold’s latest cover is delving into serious classic territory.
Released today is the band’s take on the Beach Boys’ iconic “God Only Knows” from their 1966 album Pet Sounds, and apparently, A7X had some challenges tackling the track.
In a statement, M. Shadows said, “Of all these new songs we’ve recorded, this one was the most difficult in terms of figuring out an arrangement. Figuring out the middle vocal melodies was also challenging. We wanted to make the song a little darker by adding a flanger and some haunting vocal nuances.”
Of course, the last cover A7X released was of the 1961 Del Shannon hit “Runaway.” Two 60’s pop covers in a row? Fingers crossed that a cover of Herman’s Hermits “I’m Into Something Good” or Donovan’s “Mellow Yellow” is next!
