M. Shadows Reflects on A7X’s Cover of “Wish You Were Here”
Avenged Sevenfold will be dropping the deluxe edition of The Stage on December 15, which will contain all six cover tracks they’ve released the past couple of months.
The last cover the band released was of the Pink Floyd classic “Wish You Were Here,” and while there wasn’t a particular reason for recording the track at the time, M. Shadows told WRIF’s Meltdown recently that he hopes the song resonates with fans in light of recent events, like the mass shooting in Las Vegas or Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria:
“The ‘Wish You Were Here’ thing…we recorded all these songs a year ago, but I gotta say releasing it right now seems like a good time when the world kinda needs something like this with all of the terrible things that have been going on…It’s just a non-stop barrage of insanity. When that song originally came out, obviously it was about Syd Barrett, but they used it a lot in the Vietnam war-type stuff, and it was a song that really meant a lot at that time, and it’s a song that when reimagined could mean a lot again with everything everyone is going through right now.”
The deluxe edition of The Stage is currently available for pre-order in multiple formats at AvengedSevenfold.com.
