“A” Songs

A Boy Named Sue by JOHNNY CASH
A Certain Girl by WARREN ZEVON
A Girl Like You by SMITHEREENS

“A Hard Day’s Night” by BEATLES

The opening chord to this Beatles track has been a source of discussion for many years. It has to be one of the most distinctive sounds the band ever produced, totally encapsulating the vibe of the era. It’s a jarring opening that leads into the most quintessential, driving 60s track you’ll ever hear. The sound was the perfect opening to their first film, A Hard Day’s Night, signaling the start of something special. Oh, and the chord, by the way, is a Fadd9, played by Harrison on his 12-string Rickenbacker.

“All Along The Watchtower” by JIMI HENDRIX

“All Along the Watchtower” is a song originally by Bob Dylan, but is most known for the cover done by Jimi Hendrix. This version replaces Bob Dylan’s signature harmonica-driven acoustic sound with that of a screaming electric guitar. He adds his own “voodoo child” flare. Even Dylan himself has admitted that he has performed the song in a more Hendrix-style way since Jimi’s passing.

This Back to School A to Z “A” song is a true WMMR classic. Any rock music fan from Philly has some connection to our hometown band, The Hooters. After all, they’ve been around for over 40 years in the city. We’ve kept a close relationship with the band, thanks to jocks like Pierre Robert. “And We Danced” is one of the band’s most successful singles, coming out in 1985.
