Incubus In Studio with Pierre Robert [FLASHBACK]
Today (2/15) is the birthday of Brandon Boyd, the multimedia artist and singer best known as the frontman of Incubus. WMMR is stoked to welcome the band back to town this summer, sharing the stage with Coheed & Cambria. They’ll be at the Big Joint, a.k.a. the Wells Fargo Center, in Philadelphia on Tuesday, August 27th, and tickets are on sale now.
This upcoming tour is a special one: Incubus will celebrate their 2001 album Morning View, performing all thirteen tracks front to back. This LP is the group’s best-selling release, birthing the hits “Wish You Were Here” and “Nice to Know You”. The band had initially hoped to do a tour at the album’s 20th anniversary mark, but 2021 was fraught with pandemic-related cancellations and travel challenges.
Now, Incubus will not only perform this entire album live, but they’re revamping the songs with a modern touch. Morning View XXIII is available for pre-order now. Brandon Boyd explained in an Instagram post: “Morning View XXIII is a re-recording/re-think of the 2001 album and is the result of our desire to honor this burgeoning legacy but also reimagine it as musicians who have been lovingly performing these songs night after night for the last 23 years.”

In the same post, the band announced that longtime bassist Ben Kenney had departed the band. Nicole Row has been welcomed to the Incubus family in his stead.
With all of this news on the band swirling around, we thought we’d dive into the MMaRchives for this conversation with Brandon Boyd, guitarist Mike Einzinger, and Pierre Robert. They visited the WMMR studios on July 20th, 2017 and performed at the FM center in Camden, NJ later that night.
The interview touches on their album 8 which had been released a few months prior. Brandon and Mike also paid homage to Chris Cornell, whose birthday it was that day; sadly, he had taken his own life earlier in the year, and shortly after this interview the group found out that Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, a friend of Cornell’s, had also died by his own hand. At the show that night, Incubus dedicated “Wish You Were Here” to Bennington.
Listen as they also tell Pierre about their early days of touring, Mike’s time at Harvard, funny nicknames, and more.
Note: This interview originally aired live in July 2017.
