Josh Homme On Malcolm Young Influence On His Guitar Playing
Queens Of The Stone Age leader Josh Homme has come forth to express love for the late Malcolm Young and AC/DC, and how both have exerted a long influence on his music.
Homme tells the British magazine Mojo that after leaving the band Kyuss to join Screaming Trees and then form QOTSA, he looked to Young’s guitar playing style as the basis for what became his own:
“I wanted to see what it was like when you just played one thing until you got lost in a trance. One note is so much more difficult than 50. That’s what I learned (in Screaming Trees), because I was playing rhythm, I was trying to play like Malcolm Young, trying to play a riff like a robot.”
Young died on Saturday (November 18) in Australia at the age of 64 after battling dementia for several years.
