Dave Grohl Says Recording Session for New Foo Fighters Album Were Haunted
Foo Fighters were apparently joined by a special guest (or guests) on their upcoming album, but these guests weren’t musicians.
In a new interview with Mojo (transcribed by NME), Dave Grohl talked about how the recording sessions may have been disrupted by ghosts or other spirits. “When we walked into the house [where the recording studio was] in Encino, I knew the vibes were definitely off but the sound was f*cking on. We started working there and it wasn’t long before things started happening. We would come back to the studio the next day and all of the guitars would be detuned or the setting we’d put on the board, all of them had gone back to zero. We would open up a Pro Tools session and tracks would be missing.”
To add to the spookiness, those missing tracks were often replaced with new tracks. Grohl said, “There were some tracks that were put on there that we didn’t put on there. But just like weird open mic noises. Nobody playing an instrument or anything like that, just an open mic recording a room.”
And then somehow things got weirder. Grohl says he brought in an old video monitor he used when in his children’s cribs when they were still babies to see if that would record any of the weird shenanigans in the studio. “…Right around the time we thought we were ridiculous and we were out of our minds, we started to see things on the nest cam that we couldn’t explain,” said Grohl.
Come to find out that after all of this, the band was told by the landlord that the house/recording studio has a “history,” and it’s scary/creepy enough to where Grohl said he had to sign a non-disclosure agreement because the landlord is trying to sell the property.
“I can’t give away what happened there in the past but these multiple occurrences over a short period of time made us finish the album as quickly as we could,” said Grohl.
Grohl has boasted in previous interviews that the album is “unlike anything we’ve ever done,” so perhaps all of the paranormal activity, while scary, may have helped.
So far, there’s no release date set on the new Foo studio album, and there likely won’t be while the world is currently dealing with the Coronavirus pandemic. The band has already postponed their April tour dates, which have been rescheduled for December.
