The UK based site, StudyFinds.org along with onepoll.us, did a deep study about music. They asked participants what makes a great song? The three key answers were: A good beat, a memorable melody, and the capacity to evoke a legitimate emotional reaction.

These facts were also gathered of those studied: 36% opt for a sad song when they are feeling nostalgic. 24% play their favorite somber tunes after a break-up. And about 48% admit a sad song can brighten their day.

Get ready to perk up… or fall into a deep depression. Based on this study, these are the 30 saddest songs of all time:
