Corey Taylor On Becoming a Mask Meme, ‘Safe Bands’ Getting ‘All The Attention’
Corey Taylor is seemingly everywhere in the press due in large part to recently announcing his debut solo album, CMFT, and is offering up some of his trademark commentary.
For starters, yes, he has seen the various Slipknot mask memes that have surfaced during the coronavirus pandemic, and he is here for it.
On the memes, Taylor told Loudwire Nights, “I mean, it was just a matter of time. [Laughs] As soon as the mask thing started, I was just like, ‘Oh, here we go.’ It just seems like every time something like that kind of hits the zeitgeist, our name gets brought up, which I’m pretty proud of.”
He adds, “I keep looking at all these Karens and all these people who just are having freakouts at Walmarts and Targets about wearing a mask, I just look at these people and I go, ‘You p—–s, get out of my face with that s—! I wear it for a living, you can’t wear it for ten seconds to go buy some produce?'”
Taylor kept the soundbites coming in a new interview with Kerrang! where he touched on folk-rock saying, “It’s really safe and f—ing weak, and it feels like there’s no attitude. There’s nothing that’s offending people’s sensibilities, and that’s what rock is supposed to do sometimes.”
He continues, “That’s not to say that there are aren’t good f—ing bands out there doing it, but it just seems like the types of music that are really getting all the attention are the safe bands, and I hate anything safe.”
That considering, Taylor fans can likely assume CMFT won’t be “safe” by any means. CMFT is currently available for pre-order with exclusive formats and bundles at TheCoreyTaylor.com. CMFT is also available for pre-save on major digital platforms here, where fans can also stream/download the album’ first two singles: “CMFT Must Be Stopped” featuring Tech N9ne and Kid Bookie and “Black Eyes Blue.”
