The Phillies Are Ending Dollar Dog Night After 27 Years
An era unlike any other we have known is coming to an end. There will be no more Dollar Dog Nights at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies are ending the much-beloved event after 27 years. In its place, they will have a Buy One Get One Night (BOGO), where you can get two Hot Dogs for $5. John Clark shared the sad news today on his Twitter.
Why are they ending the popular event? Many will believe it is because of the fiasco that happened last season. On multiple occasions, dollar dogs were thrown onto the field, and at other people. Perhaps the Phillies hope that if you spend $2.50 per Hot Dog, people will be less likely to waste them like that.
It is also worth noting that in the pitch clock era, waiting in line for your dollar dogs led to people missing most of the game. Those who went last year complained online about the long lines. Many came back to their seats having missed multiple innings, just to get three hotdogs. BOGO Night may make those lines move faster than they did in Dollar Dog Night.
Whatever the case, it is a sad occasion. Dollar Dog Night was a staple at Citizens Bank Park. It goes back to before the team was any good. When $1 worth of processed meat was the best reason to go to games. It also helped carry us through the dark ages between 2011 and 2022 when we saw no playoff games. And even though the team itself is all the reason we need to go to Phillies games now, it is still sad to see Dollar Dog Night go.
