We’re forecasting frozen fun now through WINTER: Exclusively at Philadelphia Zoo is a 9-week experience that enables guest to frolic and enjoy a frozen winter wonderland—right in the middle of summer. Just when they think it’s too hot to go outside guests can head over for some frozen fun and experience a magical snow destination. Philadelphia Zoo is working with a company called SnowMagic, the world’s only manufacturer of the independent snow crafting system called ICS™, capable of creating up to 200 tons of realistic snowfall a day almost indistinguishable to real snowflakes regardless of ambient temperature. Guests will tube down Snow Leopard Slope, a 120-foot-long, 20-foot-high, snow-covered incline; make snow angels or throw a snowball or two in Snow Zone, a free-play area for all ages or head into Polar Bear Pavilion designed specifically for little snow tots. The Oval+ is a seasonal pop-up outdoor public space that transforms an island of asphalt and surrounding lawns at 24th Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway into an eight-acre public space devoted to all-ages fun. Located within walking distance from Parkway’s cultural attractions, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Barnes Foundation and The Franklin Institute, the space becomes a pedestrian-friendly urban oasis, inviting visitors to enjoy games, outdoor movie nights, free fitness classes, mini-golf and more, five days a week!
And, certainly not to be forgotten, The Oval+ features a rotating lineup of food trucks where you can score a delicious meal or snack alongside a cold brew from the scenic outdoor beer garden that will also host Game Day Saturdays, featuring Quizzo and live music, as well as Family Fun Sundays, featuring a kids’ DJ dance party and more. Throughout its opening, The Oval+ presents a different theme for each day of the week with interactive programming and activities surrounding it. Wellness Wednesdays, featuring power yoga classes and kickboxing session. Thursdays are Arts and Culture days, when dance parties and hip-hop classes unfold along the Parkway, followed by Food and Flicks Fridays that create a weekly outdoor movie night. Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest, Spruce Street Harbor Park’s sister site, returns for its third year. The area will transform into a warm-weather space with an outdoor roller rink, nine-hole mini golf course and urban beach lounge. There’s also plenty of food and drinks to discover with options from Franklin Fountain, Chickie’s and Pete’s as well as indoor and outdoor bars. This year, the warm-weather attraction debuts The Midway, an area with carnival games and rides.
