WMMR Heads Back to High School
Hey Gang, Brent Porche here: Over the summer I was asked by my alma mater, Springfield High School (Delco… Go Cougars!), to help out with this year’s SHS Marching Band halftime show. The theme: A Salute To Radio! How Cool!
I started playing the drums when I was in 4th grade at Scenic Hills Elementary School. Played all through middle school at ETR eventually spending 4 years in the marching band at SHS. I was a snare drummer freshman through junior years and switched to quads my senior year. Drummer, Percussionist… whatever you want to call it, it was a ton of fun to be a part of and I was thrilled to be able to come back and work with the Cougar Band on a really cool halftime show!
The SHS Band did a fantastic job rockin’ & rollin’ ..and marchin’ through rock hits like the Foo Fighter’s “Learn to Fly”, Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” & Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now”...also with a little vocal help from myself, Jacky Bam Bam & Sara!
Playing an instrument is one thing, marching and creating moving formations while playing an instrument is a whole other level!
There are two SHS football games left in the regular season:
- Home 10/21 vs. Lower Merion
- Away 10/28 @ Harry S. Truman in Levittown
You’ll be able to see the SHS Cougar band’s halftime show, with some ‘MMR Love, at both games. Shout out to SHS Band Director Mark Stanford and the rest of the Springfield High School Marching Band on the great performance and for saluting RADIO!
Rock On! -bp
