WWE’s Wrestlemania XL Coming to Philadelphia in 2024
Wrestlemania XL is coming to Philadelphia! Over the summer Mayor Jim Kenney along with the WWE, the Philadelphia Eagles and others announced that the pop culture extravaganza that is Wrestlemania is coming back to Philadelphia for the first time since 1999!
Wrestlemania XV was broadcast live on pay-per-view around the world from the, then, First Union Center, in South Philly, with a sold-out live crowd of close to 20,000 – me being one of em! It was Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. The Rock in the main event for the WWF Championship!
Here we are 25 years later, celebrating the 40th Anniversary of one of entertainment’s biggest spectacles, and we’re doing it right here in Philly at Lincoln Financial Field April 6th & 7th 2024 in front 75,000+ of the WWE Universe!
WWE was in town recently for Monday Night Raw and unveiled the official logo for Wrestlemania XL (40) – I’m sure the merch for the event will be pretty awesome… it usually is, like this Royal Rumble shirt from a few years ago.
I was at Wrestlemania 29 at MetLife Stadium back in 2013 with a live crowd of 80,700 people – the largest attended event ever at MetLife Stadium – previously held by U2 and their 360Tour with the big claw. The Undertaker wrestled CM Punk that night and Living Colour played Cult of Personality LIVE as Punk walked to the ring! The main event was John Cena vs. The Rock for the WWE Championship!
WWE is known to pull out all the stops the week of Mania – It will be a weeklong event that in addition to 2 days of WMXL, we get Friday Night Smackdown which airs live on Fox worldwide, Monday Night Raw which airs worldwide on USA Network, the WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and the always crazy AXXESS which is almost like a Comic-Con of wrestling.
Needless to say… I’ll be there! Can’t Wait!
Now can I get a Ric Flair WOOOOO!
