Pennsylvania Is Home To One Of The Best Butcher Shops In The Country
USA Today‘s 10BEST recently explored local butcher shops across the country. Specifically, they looked for those with that hometown-friendly feel and offer expertise on their products. 10BEST published a list of the best butcher shops, and a Pennsylvania location was named among them
This feature explains how local butcher shops often provide excellent overall value where the meat’s quality is reasonably priced. “They also source their meat from local farms and ranches, which means you get to enjoy the variety and freshness of cuts that can often be made to order,” 10BEST states.
The butcher shops highlighted here are located in all corners of the country. Though many of their products are similar, they each have something unique about them. These shops truly stand out in their communities as opposed to being part of a larger grocery chain.
This Pennsylvania establishment, named among the country’s best butcher shops, strives to ensure each customer has a traditional butcher shop experience where you see your order cut or trimmed in front of you.
Halteman Family Meats
Located in Philadelphia, Halteman Family Meats dates back to 1917. Lester Halteman first opened a meat stand in 1917. Now, over 100 years later, they are still located in the Reading Terminal Market and are open six days per week (closed on Sunday).
“If you’re looking for something outside the usual run of the mill supermarket meat case you’ve come to the right place, Hatleman Family Meats says.
Their current selection is broken up into the categories of; black angus beef, fresh local pork, burgers, smoked bacon, sausage and poultry. In addition, Halteman’s also carries cheeses, lamb, and what they call “exotic meats.”
They offer fresh packages that are suitable and sometimes themed to accommodate large gatherings. For example, their recent July 4th package was a mixture of eight different types of burgers and three added bacon variations.
